Description
Lab lab (Lablab purpureus) is a warm-season legume that is best suited to grow in tropical and subtropical regions. It is believed to have originated in Africa but is now grown in many parts of the world, including Asia, South America, and the southern United States. Lab lab prefers warm temperatures, with optimal growth occurring between 25°C to 35°C (77°F to 95°F), and can tolerate a wide range of soil types, from sandy to clayey soils. It is also drought-tolerant and can withstand periods of water stress, making it a valuable crop for areas with limited rainfall or unreliable water sources. Lab lab is often grown as a forage crop for livestock, due to its high protein content, but it can also be used as a cover crop, green manure crop, or for human consumption, as the seeds are edible and used in some traditional dishes.
